
Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British artist, singer, actress and activist. She was born and raised in the London Borough of Islington and went to Croydon's BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis gained national attention by winning the third series of The X Factor in 2006 and was awarded a PS1 million recording deal together with Syco Music. The single she won that was a cover of Kelly Clarkson's hit song "A Moment Like This," had 50,000 downloads within thirty minutes and peaked at number 1 for the duration of four weeks. Clive Davis' label J Records, signed Lewis to a deal for five albums in February 2007. Lewis has continued to be successful with Spirit, her first studio album. It sold 10x platinum accredited in the UK. Spirit became one of the top four albums sold in 2000, and it was also one of the best-selling UK albums. Spirit was, according to Official Charts Company is the 21st Century's most-sold debut album by a female artist. Its lead single "Bleeding Love" that lasted seven weeks on high on the UK charts, also became the top-selling single of 2007. The song was among the best-selling of 2008, as well. Lewis won the Billboard Award for Best New Artist. In 2009 she released her second studio album Echo and also recorded the title track, "I See You" in the movie Avatar. In 2011, Lewis released the single "Collide" which was a collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii as well as her debut extended-play, Hurt: The EP. Glassheart (2012) was the album that she released as her third studio effort. Her inspiration came from electronic and dubstep music. The Glassheart Tour was in the middle of 2013, when she started recording songs to make her first Christmas album. The Christmas album, with Love was released in the final quarter of 2013. The album's opening track One More Sleep came in at the number three spot in the UK. Lewis who is a British solo female artist was the first artist to make it into the Top Five with eight singles. It was a leap over Olivia Newton John's seven-year record.
